A top United Nations official on Tuesday demanded an independent investigation into the death of an Iranian woman who died while in police custody. Ravina Shamdasani, spokeswoman for the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, calls the death of 22-year old Mahsa Amini, tragic. Amini had been detained by the “morality police” for breaking the Islamic Republic’s rules on what women can wear in public. Protests have broken out across the country. Shamdasani spoke Tuesday in Geneva.
